Bio – Bruce Wicksteed

Clinical Operations Manager

Bio – Bruce Wicksteed R.N., BSc(Nurs), GradDipSc, GradCert(Paramed), GradCertRetrievalMed, Churchill Fellow Bruce Wicksteed is an experienced aeromedical critical care Registered Nurse / Paramedic. In addition to his undergraduate degree in Nursing, Bruce also holds several post graduate awards including Paramedicine and Retrieval Medicine. With over 20 years of acute clinical experience in tertiary hospital settings including 10 years in Paediatric Intensive Care as a Clinical Nurse,and more than 6 years in pre-hospital settings including state ambulance service metropolitan emergency response and high acuity international aeromedical retrievals, Bruce has a demonstrated strong professional interest in retrieval medicine, critical care, paediatrics, prehospital health care. Churchill Fellow – In 2013 Bruce was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to examine varied models of paediatric retrieval services around the world. Bruce has also developed and publishes resources for paediatric intensive care and resuscitation including PediWheel Resus and Paediatric Intensive Care ‘Little Black Book’.

Dr Robert Liddell

Medical Director

Robert Liddell is an Aeromedical Physician with over 30 years in the Aeromedical field. He has been the Medical Director with multiple organisations including International SOS based in London, AEA International SOS, Medical Director Dan Air Services London, Director of Aviation Medicine for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Australia, and Medical Director of Royal Flying Doctor Service WA. Rob also is an Airline Transport Pilot with over 7500 flight hours.

Zach Froneman

Chief Pilot / Operations

Zach comes to Medical Air with over 13 years of Aviation experience. His depth of knowledge and experience spans throughout South Africa, North Africa and Western Europe. From a Military background and onto Civil Aviation as a Commercial Pilot in Executive Charter and Aero Medical Retrieval, Zach’s exacting standards and knowledge are invaluable in operating an international Air Ambulance service.

Shane Gifford

Managing Director

Shane is the Managing Director of both Medical Air and Formula Aviation (the parent company of Medical Air). Shane is a Licenced Pilot and Licenced Aircraft Engineer with over 24 years experience in the Australian aviation industry. Over the past two decades, Shane has honed his expertise in Aviation, Commercial Aviation, Aerospace, Airports, Aircraft Maintenance, Civil Aviation and Business Strategy to create a powerfully dedicated team providing exceptional care and service within the Aeromedical field both nationally and internationally. Shane is extremely persistent and maintains “you just push through until you achieve… never give up”. Combining his drive to succeed with his naturally caring nature, Shane has created a culture of ensuring people and patients are provided the best and most compassionate care possible.
